About Morgenrot mit Maura

I've considered making a blog before, but just like many other large projects I have considered realizing, I thought I'd once again fail to commit. Last year, I started my YouTube channel, and I found that I really enjoy sharing my stories and advice with others---maybe even inspiring people or helping them decide what they want to do with their future.
When I finally decided that studying abroad was not something I could leave college without doing, I knew that I would have to finally click "publish" on this website so that I could share the complicated feelings I would undoubtedly experience and the extensive knowledge I would gain while in Europe.
Before clicking that button, I had to come up with a name---as a fluent German-speaker studying in Berlin, it absolutely had to have something to do with Germany. Some catchy alliteration is also always a good call. I came up with "Morgenrot" ... like all of the best German words, it doesn't really have an exact translation to English; it literally means "morning red" and is a word for dawn/sunrise. The perfectionist (and despiser of incorrectly-pronounced German words) in me tells me to inform you that the "rot" part like row-t, like rowing a boat.
If I know one thing about my coming four months in Germany, it's that I will experience a lot of early mornings---I want to experience a lot while in Berlin and while traveling, and cheap flights often take off at 6 or 7 AM. I will absolutely be writing many posts while waiting for them in order to stay awake so I don't miss my flight.
Oh, and "mit Maura" means "with Maura," but I hoped that part was kind of obvious ;)
So whether or not you know me personally, I hope you can find something in my blog for you :)
Now please enjoy some pictures of little 17-year-old Maura the last time she was in Germany:
